Getting Better Connected with my Readers and Subscribers!

I was recently talking with a good friend who is also my business coach, Travis Greenlee. I realized as we talked that I needed to really connect more with my readers and subscribers. Obviously, if I am going to give you the right information to help each of you the most to improve your health, then I must find out what it is that really concerns each of you. The only way to do that is to have you tell me more about you so that I can best respond to your concerns. So here goes!

I have 2 very important questions for you:

1) What are your biggest challenges in health?
2) How committed are you to clearing up these challenges?

I hope that you will respond in the comment section of this post. If you don’t share your health concerns then it is very difficult to provide solutions. I am truly looking forward to getting to know you better and to give you the information that can provide you the solutions that you are looking for. I want to also let you know that I have direct contact with some of the most amazing doctors and they can help me in providing you the proper information for your challenges.

Caring for Mom and Dad with Alzheimers/Dementia/Cancer

It’s been almost 6 months now since Daddy died (March 11, 2009). I wasn’t even over my grieving for my Mom who died a year before Daddy (March 21, 2008). The past 8 to 10 years have been some of the roughest, and yet, some of the greatest times spent with my parents. I was chosen to be the caregiver for my parents and I am grateful.
P8220169
Mom and Dad moved back to Colorado in 1998, after living in Texas for 10 years. Dad was feeling like their health was deteriorating (Mom had a breast removed) and he wasn’t sure that he could handle everything. I was so thrilled to have them back nearby.

We really enjoyed being able to visit often, going to dinner together, having holidays together again and just spending time with the whole family…my Mom, my Dad, my Mother-in-Law and our 4 children. Brothers and sisters came out to visit when they could….from MN, IL, CA and it was super.

In 2000, way too soon, my Mom began showing signs of forgetfulness. Alzheimers runs in our family and she had always worried that she would be like her mother with Alzheimers. And sure enough, she was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2001. I wish I had known about glutathione back then. What a dreadful disease…..helplessly I watched my Mom through the entire loss of her memories, her ability to form full sentences, her FEAR when she realized very frequently in the early stages that she was “losing everything” as she said so often. She began to wander a bit and Daddy would find her in some neighbor’s home. She would be frightened and not know who Daddy was so she didn’t want to go with him. She could no longer cook and Daddy had to always check the stove to be sure it was turned off. He would call me several times a week to come over because he couldn’t stop Mom from crying. I would go over, hold Mom in my arms and rock her, telling her that I would always be here for her whenever she needed me. Eventually, she would stop crying and I could coax a little laughter out of her.

Of course, I tried everything I could think of….medical treatments such as Namenda (I ordered it from Germany because it had not yet been approved here in the USA) and it did seem to help a bit. Mom couldn’t take the other treatments because they made her very ill physically. I made sure that Mom took vitamins, the very best that I could find at the time. I replaced all their chemically-laced toxic cleaners and personal care items with environmentally-safe products and I’m sure it was better for them, but probably way too late to do much good.

Mom complained about her leg hurting and she would cry asking us to please have her leg cut off. I would explain that we couldn’t cut her leg off but we would try to alleviate the pain. Her doctor gave her some arthritis med treatment but it didn’t do any good. He even gave her cortisone shots but they didn’t help at all. Finally, I tried one of my alternative health solution products and within a week, she no longer was complaining about the pain, her leg was no longer buckling under her and she was feeling just great.

I began looking for ways to keep her active and also secure. My Dad was becoming exhausted trying to take care of her and he needed breaks. I began contacting different kinds of senior care help, the Alzheimers Association, longterm health care, Adult Protection Agency and many others to learn what I could setup to help my Mom and Dad.

Watch for my next Post for this senior care help information. And please feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about Alzheimers and the solutions/hardships endured during this journey.

Be healthy and happy!

Connie Clark

Let’s talk … I know there is more …..

Have You Heard The News?
FACT: The United States represents only 4% of the world population, yet consumes 50% of the total amount of medication in the world, at a rate of 25 MILLION DOSES per Hour!

FACT: An estimated 250,000 people are injured and 98,000 people die EACH YEAR as a result of Medical Negligence in the USA (that’s almost 40 people each and every hour)!
http://www.medicalmalpractice.com/National-Medical-Malpractice-Facts.cfm

FACT: 1.3 million people are injured by approved drugs and medical devices annually in the USA. That’s almost 150 people every hour! The FDA also states: “We believe there is serious under-reporting of adverse events”.
http://www.fda.gov/ope/fy02plan/adevent.html

FACT: In the USA “More people die in a given year as a result of medical errors than from motor vehicle accidents
(43,458), breast cancer (42,297), or AIDS (16,516). From “To Err is Human, Building a Safer Health System” Linda T. Kohn, et al. Editors; Committee on Quality of Health Care in America, Institute of Medicine. 2000

FACT: The United States spends more money (15.4% of GDP in 2004) than any other country in the world on “Health” care, yet the World Health Organization ranks us 84th in the world as a Healthy Population! www.who.int/en

FACT: Doctors must submit a “sickness” code in order to be reimbursed. There are no such things as “wellness” or
preventative codes!

> Our health insurance industry is actually predicated on you being “sick”! <
NOW ASK YOURSELF:
1. Are you worried about your health and how you feel right now?
2. How do you want to feel when you’re older?
3. Would you prefer to live your life on multiple medications, or enjoy a better quality of life by using a provable, science-based alternative health product with double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover clinical studies?

Remember This As You Answer The Above Questions…

You are a product of your life style, and the choices you make every day.
FACT: “This product represents the single most important breakthrough in health that I will witness in my lifetime. This product will revolutionize, change, & transform the practice of medicine world wide, and make Dr. Keller more famous than Jonas Salk who created the polio vaccine!”*
Spoken by Dr. John Nelson, Immediate Past President of the American Medical Association, at a Max International meeting in February, 2007  * Quote was paraphrased.

NOW let me ask you another question….
Have you ever heard a former AMA president say anything remotely like this about any other nutritional supplement? Would you like to learn more about this alternative health product?

Let’s talk!

Do you feel like there is more…

to healing than prescribing drugs that mute the pain, but do not treat the disease?

Are you tired of the same  old prescriptions and doctor’s bills as the way to treat an illness? Do you feel like there is more to healing than prescribing drugs that mute the pain, but do not treat the disease? I would rather be striving for Total Wellness!

Many people have entertained these questions and found out what they already knew deep down inside was true, the body is a highly complex network of interrelated systems that work together as a whole. If one part does not work, the others will suffer. And to treat one, a doctor must look at the effects on the whole body before treating just one system.  Again, total wellness….working together as a whole!

There are many alternative methods and alternative health solutions to help with many health issues that traditional medicine just cannot help with. Instead of masking the health problem, these methods look at the whole body, mind and spirit to locate the root/source of the health issue and then are able to work with our body to begin a true healing process.  Total wellness…whole body, mind and spirit to locate the root/source of the health issue. Here are some examples of alternative health methods:

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic care is natural, hands on healing that treats the cause of physical pain, like low back pain, rather than just the symptoms. It uses a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust which adjusts the spine or other joints that are causing you pain or dysfunction. Chiropractic is based on a normally functioning spine, the primary pathway of your nervous system.

What is Acupuncture?
There is nothing mysterious about acupuncture, it is a 3000-year-old healing art dealing with energy channels (Qi) in your body. Acupuncture removes blockages in Qi by the use of needles and electrical stimulus. Acupuncture balances the body’s energies in a safe and effective manner.

What is Contact Reflex Analysis? (www.crahealth.org)
Contact Reflex Analysis (CRA) is a simple, safe, natural method of analyzing the body’s structural, physical, and nutritional needs. It is not a method of diagnosis. It uses the body’s reflexes to accurately determine the root cause of a health problem. CRA is a marvelous prevention technique used to find a problem before it becomes a full-blown health issue.

What is Neuro-Emotional Technique? (www.netmindbody.com)
Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) is a methodology of finding and removing vertebral subluxations associated with neuro-emotional complexes which are preventing abnormal neuro-emotional responses from returning to their normal physiology. NET uses muscle testing, body reflex points and semantic reactions (physiological reactions to memories or words) to assist and guide you to recall a specific negative emotion and when the emotion first occurred. NET then removes the physiological response by the way of chiropractic adjustments.

What is Clinical Nutrition?
Clinical nutrition is the use of whole, natural, organic supplementation along with CRA to correct deficiencies and heal the body to vibrant health.

What is Solutions Spiritual Clearing?
Solutions Spiritual clearing is a digital, numeric, geometric language which speaks directly to the in-form-ation fields or memory fields that hold the record (past and present) of who you are and what your potential is.

This technique uses a biofeedback technique called the muscle test. Research has shown that the brain registers it’s stress to the muscles, which can then “communicate” that stress by using the muscle test. Through the muscle test and clearing, using the digital, numeric language, you can free up the interfaces of your life, be it in your job, career, relationships, or general life. Use Solutions to reach your greatest and highest potential. This technique allows miracles to happen in your life.

These are just a few methods used by a good Chiropractor or possibly a Naturopathic doctor. Always be sure to research the method and the doctor using these methods. BUT, the most important thing is that these methods are not harmful to the body and may help prevent serious problems in the future.

To your wonderful healthy body potential,
Connie

Vision for Alzheimers/Dementia

I designed and implemented a special Alzheimers/Dementia website dedicated to my parents, Elwood and Alice Godfrey.  My hope is to make it a Charity where donations and proceeds from my businesses go to help in the research for a cure or health management of Alzheimers.

Spirit of Life Foundation

I cared for my Mom and Dad for about 10 years, helping them in their own home for several years and then in a Secure Assisted Living facility for less than a year.  Unfortunately, my Mom was placed in a sister facility (nursing home) and was damaged beyond hope in less than 2 days.  We did all we could to bring her back to the way she was before she went into the nursing home but there was too much damage from lack of care, negligence, not following up with the doctor’s orders and much more.  By the time I got her out of there and into a hospital, she was almost dead.

She was completely malnourished and dehydrated.  The only hope we had was to put a feeding tube into her stomach.  She lived another year and 3 months.  And she did gain a tiny bit of recognition of her loved ones and a small ability to talk sometimes, but she never walked again and she was constantly in danger of aspiration/pneumonia/etc.  I moved her to another nursing home (it was like night and day from the first home) and they loved her and cared for her like she were their own Mom.  I am grateful to them.

We took my Dad home to live with us for the next 2 years.  He had been diagnosed with Dementia, COPD, esophageal cancer, and finally with liver cancer.  No one expected him to live as long as he did and in as good health as he was those last couple of years….but then, I am an alternative health consultant and advocate.

I finally did have to put him in the same nursing home (2nd one) that my Mom had been in and they cared for him and loved him so very much.  He only lived another 6 months there.  But I was with him so much of the time, just like I was for my Mom.

They are together now and I will continue my journey and mission to help others to live a better and longer quality of life.  There is no excuse for suffering with terrible health when there are so many options for health and life.

Take care of yourself and your family!

Health

Life is too Short!

Life is too Short!

Your health is your most important asset.
-Dr Carlos Santo

We all hear all the time that our health is important and that without it nothing else matters. However, how many of us really pay attention to that?  When Dr. Carlos tells me that my health is my most important asset, I think, “Sure, he would think that, after all he is a doctor.”

When I think of my most important asset it ranges from people who are important to me like family and loved ones, to my skills like intellect and speaking. Of course I know how important my health is to me, but in all honestly in general my health is always good and doesn’t require much thought.

There is an expression about cigarette smokers that goes like this: cigarette smokers don’t believe cigarettes will kill them, the proof being cigarettes have never killed them before. That’s how we are with our health–because we have never faced an issue we think it will always be there. Then one day when it is not, you realize it truly is your most important asset.

Recently for six weeks I faced a vocal cord infection that simply paralyzed me. Yes, I could still walk, but a broken leg would have been easier for me to manage than a broken voice, not that I want that either. Why is that? Remember one of the things I listed as what I feel is an important asset to me, speaking. Well, all that came to a halt. I could not do my recordings, public speaking or sessions.

Why, because of my health. Well, I am happy to say, it’s back. Finally the battle feels over. This episode really  reconfirmed Dr Carlos’s words. You see, at the end of the day all the assets you value have no value to you, or you to them, without your health. Without your health you cannot enjoy the privileges of life. Your emotional side might consider your loved ones your most important asset, but you are a drain on them and cannot enjoy them if your health suffers. The logical side might consider your job, your skills, or your physical assets as the most important. Once again, you cannot enjoy them or partake in them with fading health.

I can tell you that just because a cigarette hasn’t killed you, the likelihood is that if you smoke, it will. In that same light, just because you woke up feeling healthy today, it doesn’t guarantee that you will tomorrow. Don’t wait to face obstacles before you take action. The best medicine is preventative medicine.

Watch what you eat.
Take vitamins and supplements that fit your needs
Exercise
Sleep
Drink plenty of water
Laugh every day…very good for the health
And don’t be lazy, get your checkups

Do all that and more. In fact you know you can take better care of yourself, so do it. Think of it this way, what would you do with an asset that was worth millions of dollars? The answer is obvious; you would do all you can do to protect it and take care of it. So since your health is not only your most important asset, it is also a priceless asset, do everything you can to take care of it.

Environmental Risks to your Health

A survey commissioned on behalf of the American Lung Association Health House program and 3M in April 2002 found that many of those questioned were not aware of the potential dangers associated with poor indoor air. With 540 homeowners nationwide responding to the survey, which has a +/- six percent margin of error, key findings were:

• More than 50 percent of Americans are not aware that poor indoor air quality is one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health, and nearly 25 percent of Americans are not concerned about the air quality in their homes and the impact it can have on their family’s health.
• Less than 20 percent of Americans believe that the air inside their homes is more polluted than the air outdoors, even though the EPA found that levels of air pollution inside the home can be two to five times higher — and occasionally up to 100 times higher — than outdoor levels.
• More than 70 percent of Americans have forced air heating and/or central air in their homes. Yet nearly 50 percent do not change the filter in their heating/air conditioning unit every 2 to 3 months as recommended, and 10 percent have never replaced the filter in their heating/air conditioning unit.
• Nearly 75 percent of Americans live with someone who has allergies, asthma, emphysema or another respiratory illness.

The Environmental Protection Agency has identified indoor air quality as one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health. Among the most common causes of indoor pollution are chemicals found in household cleaning products – the very products we think are helping keep our families safe and healthy.

EPA’s Total Exposure Assessment Methodology (TEAM) studies found levels of about a dozen common organic pollutants to be 2 to 5 times higher – and occasionally 100 times higher – inside homes than outside, regardless of whether the homes were located in rural or highly industrial areas. According to the EPA, organic chemicals are widely used as ingredients in household products. Paints, varnishes, and wax all contain organic solvents, as do many cleaning, disinfecting, cosmetic, degreasing, and hobby products. While people are using products containing organic chemicals, they can expose themselves and others to very high pollutant levels, and elevated concentrations can persist in the air long after the activity is completed, as well as continue the release of toxins when these products are simply being stored.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average American home generates over 20 pounds of household hazardous waste every year. Cumulatively, it is a whopping 1.6 million tons – that is 3.2 billion pounds – of household hazardous waste per year, of which 176,000 tons is just from cleaning products. Those familiar, everyday cleaners, including tub, tile, shower and toilet cleaners; drain and oven cleaner; wood and metal polishes; laundry bleach and many more are designated by the EPA as household hazardous waste, and improper disposal can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.
________________________________________________________________

There are many safe solutions to protect yourself and your loved ones for a better quality of health and life.  I use as many non-toxic, environmentally-safe products as possible in my home and for personal care.  The health of many is substantially impaired and will result in impaired quality of our lives as we age.  But there are solutions to protect yourself and your family.  They are not costly and can clearly make a significant impact on your life and our environment.  Be part of the solution; not part of the problem!

Limited exposure to sunlight contributes to a deficiency in vitamin D.

Posted by Peter at MSN Health on Monday, February 16, 2009 12:22 PM

A study published in the January/February issue of the journal Endocrine Practice showed dangerously low vitamin D levels in Arab-American women living in southeast Detroit. Women who wore the hijab—which covers the hair and neck, and sometimes the face, with a veil—had even more severe vitamin D deficiencies.

Few Americans wear the hijab, but we are all likely to bundle up in the winter before facing the cold—that is, when we are brave enough to venture out instead of enjoying the warmth and comforts of our home.

Even when the weather’s more pleasant, most of us are getting less exposure to the sun than we need because, health-conscious as we are, we regularly slather on sunscreen to protect us from skin cancer.

Such practices make sense but our bodies need ultraviolet light from the sun to produce vitamin D in the skin; by reducing our exposure to the sun, we risk vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D deficiency can be serious, causing rickets in children and contributing to osteoporosis in adults. It has also been linked to higher risks of diabetes, cancer, and multiple sclerosis. Vitamin D deficiency even increases the risk of an untimely death.

“When people live where the weather is colder and they are more covered with clothing, they depend on their diet for their vitamin D,” says Dr. Hobbs, M.D., a researcher at Henry Ford Hospital and lead author of the Endocrine Practice study. Unfortunately, few foods are naturally rich in vitamin D and the women in the study drank little fortified milk or orange juice.

The study’s authors recommend Arab-American women boost their vitamin D levels with a supplement. But for most of us, the easiest way to increase our vitamin D levels is to go outside more often and soak up a few more rays of sun. Taking a short walk a few times a week, sans sunscreen, usually does the trick.
